Story - Saba Government Information Services and photo by Dave Levenstone
The Bottom, Saba: April 22, 2005
On Thursday morning "The Unique
Supermarket" was officially opened in the heart of Windwardside just infront
of the Roman Catholic Church. The proud owners of the new business place Mr.
Donald & Adelena Hassell was very happy to know that finally their dream has
come through. Mrs. Hassell was very emotional at the grand opening and she
expressed satisfaction as it was not an easy undertaking having to spend
restless nights for the past week trying to put everything in place for the
opening. I am happy that we have finally reached our goal and together with
my husband we would like to thank all of our family members, friends and
customers that supported us in the planning and preparation for the grand
opening.
The blessing of the new supermarket was carried out by Fr. Danilo Pastor in
the midst of many family and friends of the Hassell's.
Both Donald and Adelena said that they have been working on this for several
months and they were happy to be in there new facility rendering good
customer service to their many customers. We always had the wish to be able
to serve our community in a much larger facility and finally we are here to
serve the general public.
We will be carrying a much larger variety of goods than what we previously
carried at our former location. The demands of the community is what we will
be catering to and being able to offer our community some good competitive
prices. We are much larger now and that way we can better serve the island.
Our emphasis will be to keep our customers happy. Our motto will be what we
don't have we will get.
The new supermarket is fully air-conditioned and we also cater to deliveries
for our many valuable customers.
We have full confidence in the economy of our little island and that is why
we have made the investment at a time like this.
The opening hours of the new supermarket will be from 8.00 a.m. until 8.00
p.m. and they will remain open during lunch hours this way they are catering
to the needs of the community in a much better way.
many persons that attended the opening of the new supermarket expressed
their with the facility and they were also happy to know that they will be
open during the lunch hours and that they have extended their closing hours.
Several persons felt that it was long overdue for the island to have a first
class supermarket.
Commissioner of Economic Affairs, Mr. Will Johnson who was unable to be
present for the grand opening due to some other meetings overseas told the
SGIS that he is always happy to see some of our young people expanding their
business to accommodate the community. This goes to show that Mr. & Mrs.
Hassell has full confidence in the economy of the island and it goes to show
that our people are progressive. I encourage more of our people to get
involve in the economic activities of the island. The young people have to
start showing interest in their own island and take every moment to reflect
back on where we have come from. Sabans has always shown that they are a
hard working people and knowing this family very well I have all confidence
that they would be successful in their new endeavors. I congratulate them on
this new undertaking and look forward in more of our people stepping up to
the plate. Government is no longer the entity to provide work for the
community and our people have to start trying it out there in the private
sector there are many possibilities.
It is good to know that all supermarkets so far are in the hands of local
people and this we will continue to keep this way Commissioner Johnson said.
