Harry L. Johnson Museum has new board

Story - Saba Government Information Services

The Bottom, Saba: June 3, 2005

The Harry L. Johnson Memorial Museum situated in eh Windwardside has elected a new board of directors. The newly appointed chairman Mr. Glen Holm spoke to the SGIS on Thursday afternoon and made the public announcement.

Mr. Holm said that the newly appointed board of directors for the museum are as follows: Chairman Mr. Glen Holm, Secretary Ms. Carolyn Johnson, Treasurer Mr. Franklin Johnson other board members are Mr. Gary Johnson, Mrs. Darlene Peterson-Johnson, Mr. Gied Mommers, Mrs. Maria Caines-Lynch, Mr. Steve Hassell and Mr. guy Johnson.

Chairman Glenn Holm informed us that the new board in its first meeting nominated him to represent the island of Saba and the museum on the board of the NAAM. We recently also completed the Gazebo and the pond at the grounds of the museum and we are now busy looking into the expansion of the museum. We are looking at a very big project which will include the building of a two story building especially for us to be able to store the many artifacts that we presently have in Holland. On the first floor we will be housing the artifacts for temperature control and on the second floor we are looking into building one or two apartments for when we have guest visiting the museum on special assignments. We are also busy looking into having an etno botanical garden built. We will be also having the entire property properly fenced in to keep out the animals.

We will be also looking into the possibility of wind energy in order to help keep the high cost of electricity down especially seeing that we will be housing all of our own artifacts on the island.

Mr. Holm also announced that they would also like to thank long time board member Mr. Walter Campbell for all of his dedicated services to the museum over the many years.

Mr. Holm has made a public appeal to the community that the grounds of the museum can be used for all sort of activities such as weddings etc. but he must request all users of the area to please take up contact with the members of the board and he stressed that he would like all users to make sure and help keep the entire grounds in a clean manner. We cannot allow people to just make use of the grounds and have them mess it up without any sort of responsibility.

Mr. Holm went on to state that we are working diligently to help bring about the many changes to the museum and we would like to count on the support and cooperation of the Saban community.
