October 10, 2006
On Sunday, October 8, 2006 Mrs. Louise Johnson celebrated her 80th birthday among family and friends at the Eugenius Johnson Center in the Windwardside. Louise traveled to Saba with her daughter Francis and a number of family members to celebrate her birthday on the island on which she was born.
Louise was born on October 8, 1926 on Crispeen which is located on upper St. John's. Her parents were Ralph and Viva Hassell. Louise was the fifth of eight children.
In June 1944 Louise migrated to Aruba. There she met her future husband, Peter Cristian Johnson and got married on October 11, 1944. Cristian or 'Slim' was also from Saba and he was working on Aruba at the time. They have 2 daughters, Francis and Jeanette.
In 1964 the family moved to Huntington, Long Island where they lived for seven years. Because of health problems 'Slim' and his family moved to Pinellas Park, Florida in 1971. In 1982 'Slim' died and Louise started baby sitting.
Louise has taken care of over 100 children and in 2000 she gave it up. Louise is very upbeat and spunky for her age. It is encouraging to see Sabans return to their island to celebrate such occasions and we encourage more to do so.
