The 3rd annual Saba Idol competition at Scout's Place came to an exciting ending on November 17, 2006. After the already well-attended semi-final the week before, this year finals have topped all others. A crowd of more than 100 peoples consisting out of a nice mix of locals, tourists and other visitors alike enjoyed the show.
Master of ceremony Wolfgang a.k.a "KJ Idol" and Barbara, the owner of Scout's Place warmed up the crowd with their own legendary performance of "I got you Baby". All contestants fought very hard and choose their famous songs for the finals. The two last singers finished equal and had to sing another song to convince the judges so that they could make up their final decision. The song "My Way" performed by the local favorite and road march king TOPO finished in first place. Anita from Holland was first runner up with her outstanding performance of the musical song "Fame". 2nd runner up was Bethany who performed "Roam." In fourth place was Senaida from St. Johns on Saba.
Many businesses from Saba and St. Maarten have sponsored this increasingly popular event, which is held for 10 weekends in the low season between September and November each year. Locals and other islanders have many opportunities to practice as the famous "Sabaoke night" is held weekly throughout the whole year every Friday night at Scout's Place Restaurant & Bar.
If you really want to see how people spend their weekends on Saba, Sabaoke is a must while you are on Saba! For more information: www.scoutsplace.com or email: info@scoutsplace.com
