Saba Government Information Services
The Innovations Bureau of Saba will be hosting an evening of appreciation for the
teachers and caregivers of the island on Thursday evening at Tropic's Café. This
week is Teacher's Appreciation Week and the bureau is taking the opportunity to
organize a get-together. Being a teacher herself, Foundation Based Education Task
Manager Ms. Henriette van Heijnsbergen knows all too well that towards the end of
the school year your energy needs a boost.
Ms. van Heijnsbergen said that they will be offering all educators who work with
children and youth from 0 to 18 years a dinner and a movie at Tropics Café on
Thursday night, May 10th.
The movie that they have chosen is "Freedom Writers" with Hillary Swank and this
will be shown for teachers only. Ms. van Heijnsbergen said that they hope the movie
will inspire the teachers for the last 2 months of the school year. Inspiration can
come from the movie that depicts how a teacher can make a difference in the life of
students. Inspiration can also come from the fact that all educators, for the first
time, will join in a social function, Ms. van Heijnsbergen said.
More than 95% of the teachers have signed up for the evening that will be opened by
Commissioner of Education. Ms. Lisa Hassel. Teachers will each receive a card with a
quote that supports the profession. Some examples: "our progress as a nation can be
no swifter than our progress in education" - John F. Kennedy; Who opens a school
door, closes a prison" by Victor Hugo.
