The first baby to be born on the island of Saba for 2007 was born on Tuesday morning
around 04. 25 a.m. to the proud parents. The first baby which will be named Lauren
Aurora Johnson is the second daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Johnson.
Mr. Christopher Johnson better known to all as Chris has recently been elected to
serve on the Island Council of Saba as of July 2nd 2007 and he is the second son of
outgoing veteran politician Commissioner Will Johnson. The baby weighed in at 7
pounds and 7 ounces. Both mother and baby was doing fine on Tuesday afternoon at the
A.M. Edward's Medical Center amongst family and friends.
Dr. Gijs Koot and head nurse Ms. Naomi Wilson did the delivery on Tuesday morning
just before leaving the island for the island of Bonaire where they are attending
public health related meetings.
Father and island council member elect Mr. Chris Johnson told the SGIS on Tuesday
afternoon at the hospital that both him and his wife Marvi has now had the
opportunity of having both island doctors deliver for them. Two years ago Dr. John
Buchanan and Head nurse Naomi delivered our eldest daughter Natalie. This time for
Lauren it was Dr. Gijs Koot and nurse Naomi. Mr. Johnson went on to state they can
say with full confidence that the women of Saba can feel very safe and secure with
both of our physicians and our experienced head nurse. Mr. Johnson said that he
would like to thank the nurses Helen de Roche and Addie Levnstone and all of the
nursing staff of the hospital for their professionalism.
With the birth of little Lauren this is the 5th grand child of outgoing Commissioner
Will Johnson who happens to be off island. Commissioner Johnson is presently on the
island of Bonaire for governmental affairs. Commissioner Johnson is now the proud
grand father of 4 grand daughters and 1 grandson. Grand mother of little Lauren,
Mrs. Lynne Johnson was also on hand on Tuesday afternoon at the hospital visiting
her newly born grand daughter.
Little Lauren Johnson may have been the first baby to be actually born on Saba
itself for the new year, but several other babies has been born to Saban parents on
the island of St. Maarten over the past 5 months. Several mothers at times prefer to
have their babies born on the island of St. Maarten for safety reasons.
