Saba Government Information Services

The Kingdom Council of Ministers on Friday, June 15th 2007 decided to re-appoint Lt. Governor of Saba Mr. Sydney Sorton for one year. Lt. Governor Sorton will be celebrating his 60th birthday in the coming days and by law he would have had to step down as Lt. Governor but the Kingdom Council of Ministers has found it fitting to re-appoint him for another year.

Lt. Governor Sorton has been the longest serving Lt. Governor of Saba as he was first appointed to the position of Lt. Governor of Saba in 1989 and held that position until 1995 and his second appointment came in 1995 until 1998. On April 1st 2006 he once again was appointed by the Kingdom Council of Ministers to serve as Lt. Governor of Saba. With this appointment he has become one of the longest serving Lt. Governors of Saba.

Many on the island is very much satisfied with the re-appointment of Lt. Governor Sorton for another one year term in office and is satisfied that he will be the one to help take the island into the new constitutional changes that will start taking effect.

Lt. Governor Sorton was born on the island of Saba and he received his elementary education on Saba and continued his secondary education on the island of Curacao where he also served the Police Force of the Netherlands Antilles before becoming Lt. Governor of Saba.
