Preparations for Saba Day 2007 are well underway. This year Saba Day will be celebrated during December 7-9, 2007.
Recently the Executive Council decided to form a type of "Supervisory Committee" that would oversee the planning of Saba Day 2007. Members of this "Supervisory Committee" are: President Commissioner Bruce Zagers, Treasurer Commissioner Chris Johnson, and Secretary Island Council Woman Akilah Levenstone.
Comm. Zagers stated that as Commissioner of Culture, he wanted to see Saba Day be organized on a professional level and wanted to restore the faith into the community about the organization of such events. He also stated that activities that were very popular in years past would be brought back for both kids and adults. Also planned is a special surprise event for the Friday evening.
Assisting in organizing this year's event will be the "J & H Preservation Foundation". President of this foundation is Mrs. Juliet Johnson. This foundation will mainly focus on organizing the non-governmental aspects of the weekend.
The foundation will work along with the Supervisory Committee to ensure that the entire weekend is well organized and all functions are completely transparent. In the coming days several small committees will be formed under the foundation to organize some of the different events.
Comm. Zagers stated that this year a lot of emphasis will be placed on activities and also providing exciting entertainment for our people. They have already started the process of organizing the different activities and meeting with the stakeholders who will be involved.
As for the weekend activities, there will be the annual trolling competition along with opportunities for organizations to have booths at the Harbor. More information about all activities will be released shortly.
