Professor Jan de Boer, member of the Joint Court of Justice of the
Netherlands Antilles and Aruba visited Saba on Wednesday morning and held a
presentation on the draft Inheritance Law of the Netherlands Antilles for several
department heads as well as for Lt. Governor Sydney Sorton and Island Secretary Mr.
Menno van de Velde at the Government Administration Building.
Mr. de Boer explained the differences between the draft law and the present law and
also the laws that exist in the Netherlands. Those in attendance at the presentation
asked several questions pertaining to the law and has also requested a copy of the
law so that they can go over it and if need be they will advise the Executive
Council who in turn will forward their comments to the Minister of Justice.
Lt. Governor Sydney Sorton thanked Mr. de Boer and stated that he would like to
invite him back to the island to give a much larger audience the opportunity to also
hear of the changes that will be coming into play once the parliament approves the
draft law. Mr. de Boer has gladly accepted the request from Lt. Governor Sorton and
together they will set up a time on when he can return to the island.
