Ambassador and Head of the European Union delegation to Guyana, Mr. Geert Heikens
paid a working working visit to the island of Saba on Thursday last and he was
accompanied by the Head of the Regional Relations Office of the EU delegation in
Guyana Mr. Manfred Brandt, the second acting head of the Territorial Ordonator Mr.
Richard Cardoze and the senior adviser from the Department of Development
Cooperation of the Federal Government Mr. Francis de Windt.
Mr. G. Heinkert and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Lt. Governor of Saba Mr.
Sydney Sorton, and he also met with commissioner of Finance Mr. Bruce Zagers and a
representative of the finance Department of the Island government of Saba. His
discussion centered around finances. The delegation also held discussions with the
Commissioner of Tourism Mr. Chris Johnson and with the Director of Tourism Mr. Glenn
Holm.
The delegation spent the night on Saba and Ambassador Heinkert was very much
impressed with the island and he was also very impressed with the cleanliness of the
island. It was his first visit to the island and has promised to return for a much
longer stay.
