Members of the Saba Cultural foundation met on Monday afternoon and decided that
instead of shortening the Saba Summer Festival this year they will maintain the
customary one week of the events.
Spokesman for the foundation Mr. Chulani Levenstone in a press release on Wednesday
said that the Saba Summer Festival 2008 is already shaping up to be an exciting and
surprising event. Saba Summer Festival will start on July 28 and end on August 3rd
2008. Due to not being sure if the community would react positively we were first
thinking of cutting back on the days due to the late start of the preparations but
due to popular demand we have decided to go ahead and hold the events for the entire
week. The response from the community has been overwhelming and seeing that the Saba
Summer Festival belongs to the people we have decided to honor their request. Our
foundation was extremely shocked and pleased at the same time with the responses
from within the community spokesman Levenstone said.
Several promoters and vendors are interested in having a function in the Summer
Festival and during our meeting we decided to honor all submitted requests that were
received and once again to re-instate the Summer Festival to a full week. No
official program has been released yet as this is still being worked out between the
foundation and the promoters, we re working very hard to make sure that everyone
will have a great time. We anticipate that an official program of events will be
sent out via the Tourist Office website and the community at large in the next
coming week or two. In the coming week or two once we have the slogan and design
ready for this year's festivities we will be able to release the official program.
We are still awaiting entries from the primary and secondary school, and once we
have them we will announce the winners.
Levenstone concluded by stating Saba Summer Festival still remains one of those
great times where locals and tourists join together to be carefree and have fun, and
as a foundation we will do our best to make sure that time honored tradition is
upheld.
