Police top brass visited Saba

July 2, 2008

bron Saba News Agency

The top brass from the Police Department on St. Maarten paid a courtesy working visit to the island of Saba recently and met with outgoing Lt. Governor of Saba Mr. Sydney Sorton and the newly appointed Lt. Governor Mr. Jonathan Johnson and Police Chief Inspector Mr. Winston Victoria and Inspector of Police, Mr. Rudolph Sorton at the Government Administration Building in The Bottom.

Visiting the island were Police Commissioner Mr. Richard Panneflek, Police Interim Coach Ronald Dongor and Lourdes Lake. The top brass discussed several matters related to the Police Department on Saba and how to better the line of communication. As this was the first official visit of Mr. Dongor it was also for him to get acquainted with the island and the Police Officers stationed on Saba. A meeting was also held between the personnel that is presently stationed on Saba and working at the Police Department and also the Immigration and to also meet the members of the Royal Marachaussees.

the delegation was forced to sleep over due to bad weather and left the island the following day. Outgoing Lt. Governor Mr. Sydney Sorton said that he was very pleased to have been able to meet the delegation and discuss matters pertaining to law and order on the island with them. I have always enjoyed a good working relationship with the Police Management on St. Maarten and I look forward in the same cooperation being granted to my successor. As Local Chief of Police you have to keep a good relationship with the Police top brass at all times. I am also happy to have been involved as Lt. Governor and Local Chief of Police in the negotiations with the Minister of Justice and the unions regarding the Interim Police Coach. I think that with the arrival of Mr. Dongor there is much that can be achieved for the Police Force of the Windward Islands. I want to wish the Police Force of the Windward Islands much success as they try to improve with the little tools that they have at their disposal. With the constitutional changes and Saba becoming a public entity I am convinced that there will be major improvements for the Police Force on Saba. Already we have been able to see some changes with the assistance of the Police Department on St. Maarten.
