Leader of the opposition party on Saba Ms. Akilah Levenstone on Tuesday morning
forwarded a farewell speech to the island council of Saba to be read in her absence
due to illness.
Ms. Levenstone in her letter stated, today we part with our Chairman, the Lt.
governor of the island Territory of Saba Mr. Sydney Sorton. Mr. Sorton you are the
longest serving Lt. Governor in the history of Saba, which is an accomplishment that
will not easily be surpassed. For 11 years you have served this island in this
capacity with integrity and strong leadership, through good times and through bad
times. I have enjoyed working with you as a member of the island council of Saba for
the past year and I appreciate the cooperation that my faction has received during
your term as chairman of the island council. Surely we have had our disagreements,
but these were always based on mutual respect for one another. I have always
followed the instructions as laid down int eh rules of order, even when i was
challenged at times in doing so.
I think that I can speak for all of my fellow council members when I say that we all
enjoyed your leadership in this Island council. As we part with you today, my
faction would like to thank you for everything that you ave done for the island of
Saba over the years. Your record will go down in history based on the fact that you
ave been appointed to serve this island on three separate occasions. You have had to
make sacrifices and at times you have had to make some difficult decisions and only
you know what it took in having to do so. As you leave this position, I would like
to sincerely thank you and wish you much success in your future endeavors on behalf
of my faction and my family. God bless.
