Saba Government, USONA sign Naf. 2 million projects

August 2, 2008

bron The Daily Herald

New Lt. Governor of Saba Jonathan Johnson and Leader of Government Commissioner Chris Johnson along with USONA representative Reginaldo Doran on Friday signed three project agreements, amounting to more than two million guilders.

One of the three projects signed comes from the Social Economic Initiative (SEI), which is the expansion of the Administration Building. This is the largest project of the three; the other two are part of the institutional strengthening agreement and include a fi nancial management project and support for the offi ce of the Island Secretary. Commissioner Johnson signed the Administration Building Expansion project and Lt. Governor Jonathan Johnson signed the two projects from the institutional strengthening agreement.

The signing took place after a brief discussion, which included USONA representative Bart Pasman and Dutch Representative in St. Maarten Gert Jan Stortelers, Island Council member Rolando Wilson, Island Secretary Menno Van der Velde and Bobby Zagers.

Commissioner Johnson stated in the meeting that one of the goals of his administration was to increase effi ciency and the overall functioning of government. "These projects directly increase the capability of the Island Government, one being structural development and the other two programmes allowing for upgrading of personnel," said Commissioner Johnson. Reginaldo Doran expanded on one of Johnson's other points, saying that Holland can only provide the tools for the islands. It is up to the governments and the people of the respective islands to make sure that the tools are properly used. "It is always a pleasure being a part of a project which will have a positive impact on not only the government, but also on the general public, whom will benefi t by Government's increased capacity," stated Doran.
