West Indies Power's geophysical team and their equipment are in Saba to begin exploration work that will assess the size and location of the geothermal reservoir located on Saba. The results of this work will be used to determine the best place to drill geothermal development holes and at what depth the geothermal reservoir can be expected to be found.

The work of the West Indies Power scientists, on Saba, consists of taking various types of electronic readings that show the location of faults that may contain geothermal fluids.
The measuring devices have the ability to "see" down into the earth to a depth of 10,000 meters. Because of the difference in the speed that the electronic particles are moving it is possible for the measuring devises to determine if they are moving through solid rock, broken rocks, or fluids.
The results of the geophysical work supply a picture of what the inside of the earth down to 10,000 meters looks like. The picture looks much like a "sonogram" that pregnant women have to see the out line of their baby and shows the location of faults that may contain geothermal fluids.
Kerry McDonald, the company CEO stated "West Indies Power is excited about starting its geothermal exploration work on Saba. This geophysical work will show us where to drill so that it can take the first steps to develop geothermal power on the island of Saba."
West Indies Power (Saba) BV is a subsidiary of West Indies Power Holding BV created to explore and develop the geothermal resource in Saba. The Saba Island Executive Council granted West Indies Power (Saba) BV the right to explore for geothermal in 2008.
Powell welcomed the Saba officials who included Energy Commissioner Bruce Zager and Geologist Trudy Hall. He congratulated them on making the bold step of exploring for geothermal energy.
