Gas price hike on Saba December 3, 2003 - Commissioner Will Johnson said that the Shell Company, the sole supplier of gas and diesel to the island, announced in February that they were considering a price hike. Songs of Praise on Friday November 26, 2003 - An ecumenical event called "Songs of Praise" will take place Friday evening, 7pm, in the Eugenius Center.
A citizen's group of various Christian denominations has organized the event. Spokesperson Denae Wood, ordained minister and student wife, said that the evening would be a Thanksgiving ceremony. "This is an occasion to bring the community together as one to celebrate the many blessings we have on Saba," Wood said. More>>

NAf 1000 from ExCo for garden prizes November 20, 2003 - Commissioner for Agriculture Lisa Hassell has announced that the Executive Council will contribute two NAf 500 prizes for the best flower garden and the best vegetable garden in the Saba Day Garden Contest.

Sea & Learn Grand Finale October 31, 2003 - Almost 100 adults and children attended the final evening of what promises to be the first annual Sea & Learn on Saba. Tropics, The Natural Café, hosted the event. Organizers set up the facility as an outdoor amphitheater with a huge screen and well equipped sound system.
Two multi-media presentations by Mauricio Handler were the highlight of the evening. "Beneath the Waves of the Caribbean Sea" and "In the Blue with Whales, Sharks & Dolphins" delighted the crowd. More>>

First international firefighter's day October 29, 2003 - Fire Department spokesperson Cornelius Richardson has announced the program for International Firefighters Day on November 4th.
The firefighters have planned an exciting demonstration of their equipment and techniques outside the Fire House in The Bottom from 8am t 10am. This will include using the "Jaws of Life" and putting out mock fires. Schoolchildren will be bussed down from the schools and their parents and the general public are invited to observe and participate in the festivities. More>>
Canadian magazine on Saba October 27, 2003 - Canadian "Diver Magazine" contributing editor Dan Bailey and his wife Ann recently spent a week on Saba in preparation for an article which will reach more than 40,000.
Bailey said that the material and photographs he gathered on Saba would also appear in newspapers and other media. He dove with two of Saba's dive outfits, and was gratified with pictures of sharks on two of the pinnacles. More>>
Medicinal plants on Saba October 27, 2003 - Saba University Pharmacology Professor Peter Schnabel took guests through a serious of more than 40 medicinal plants that grow wild on the island in a recent Sea and Learn lecture at the Brigadoon restaurant.
Schnabel is working on a book on medicinal plants of the Caribbean, and continues to increase his knowledge of plants on Saba, since he uses the trails every morning on his "commute" from Windwardside to his office at the School of Medicine. More>>
