German travel writer Herbert Gfrvrer spent
several days touring the island to prepare an article
for the online travel magazine at www.taucher.net. He
dove with different dive operations and did some of
Saba's trails with trail manager James Johnson.
Gfrvrer said that the internet-based travel magazine
had existed since 1996 and was viewed by about 250,000
people, making it the largest magazine in German
speaking Europe.
It is the writer.s first trip to the Windward Islands,
where he will spend four days each on Saba and St.
Eustatius. Gfrvrer compared Saba to the Mediterranean
in its lack of beaches and ruggedness. He commented
that he was thrilled to see the health of the National
Marine Park reefs since he had observed severe coral
bleaching around Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
He also commented that Saba was comparable in price to
Mediterranean diving with the new low airfares. He
found the over all cost on Saba for accommodations and
dining to be less expensive than the ABC islands,
Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and south Florida. .This
makes Saba a real choice for the European diver,. he
said. He added that he found the people to be
friendly, genuine, and unspoiled by the negative
aspects of tourism.
