The Gate House in Lower Hell's Gate has been awarded three-diamond rating from the Automobile Association of America, sometimes called "Triple A."
Gate House owner/operators Lyliane and Michel Job said that the restaurant had not sought out the recognition, but several months ago a client identified herself as representing the organization after she had dined in the restaurant. "We did not know who she was during the meal," Job explained. The AAA representative took careful notes of the Gate House menu, and near the end of May, the Jobs received a congratulatory letter.
The recognition means that the restaurant will be listed in the organization's "TourBook" guide, which it claims is the number one resource that members use. The organization has 48 million members who spend $44 billion annual with Tour Book listings.
AAA originally offered its members maps and emergency road service, but it now offers international travel information through its TourBook and web site.
The Jobs will be attentive whether the recommendation brings them clients. They noted that the Gate House's fourth consecutive Wine Spectator Award has proven to be successful for the business, with customers often mentioned that they read about the establishment there.
The Gate House serves an international menu with a Caribbean flair, using local ingredients. It is renown for its extensive wine list in various price ranges, with most all selections available by the glass or by the bottle.
