World Tourism Day

September 18, 2005

Dear Friends and Colleagues at home and abroad,

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish one and all a very happy World Tourism Day 2005, I will be in France attending the Top Resa Tourism Fair along with my colleagues from the newly formed "Little Caribbean Alliance", where we will spend 3 days promoting our islands as a safe, welcoming and fun vacation destination.

Our region has been extremely lucky thus far, as tropical storms and hurricanes have been bypassing us, although unfortunately causing much havoc in other parts of the world.

Although we're not quite out of the woods as yet, indications for a good tourist season are being seen. Tourism however is a very fragile industry and it doesn't take a hurricane to have a major set-back in our tourism economy. Marketing & Promotion is just the beginning stages of maintaining a healthy tourism industry. Ensuring that the visitor has a good and memorable stay on our islands is paramount to the continuance of the region's vitally important tourism economy.

This is where the entire population of our individual islands must play an important role, be nice to our visitors, be helpful and welcoming to our guests, they may just plan to return some day, as well as recommending us to their friends and families.

I'd also like to remind my fellow Sabans and our visitors as well, that the entire month of October will be dedicated to the 3rd annual Sea & Learn Program, crammed with nightly educational presentations as well as hands on field trips, school presentations etc.

An array of speakers and presenters will be sharing their knowledge and experience at various venues on the island, a weekly schedule will be posted so drop by the Tourist Office in Windwardside, check with one of the many sponsors or visit the Sea & Learn website at www.seaandlearn.org.

Make the whole month of October a celebration of World Tourism Day by attending the Sea & Learn functions, expand your knowledge of the world around you and the island you live on...

From myself and the staff at the Saba tourist Office I take this opportunity the congratulate all on World Tourism Day September 27th.
